Antonín Tesar - „strange world"-

Opening Saturday, April 5, 7.00 till 9.30 pm
Show:  April, 6 till Juni 21, 2008.

The beauty but also the ugliness of human existence are the central themes of the Czech photo artist.
Antonin Tesar breaks the aestetic of glossy fashion magazines by a clever staging of his most feminine models in unusual sitiuations, strange behaviour or equipped with some strange acessoires such as pig feet, clothes and bags of meat or fish skin. His motives in part remember in fetish scenes, thus invite the viewer as an voyeur for inspection. They show fantasy, anxiety, sexuality and bodycult.

Despite the bizarre clothes and unusual positing of the models, the large colored silver gelatine photographs of the Czechs artist are anything but not deterrent. Rather they act in surreal situations in a strange and crazy world -strange world-.

Through his unique technology of coloration- multible superimpositions of transparent colors - and his sophisticated staging, negatives made with large size cameras, his images are on the other hand like a strange, fabulous fantasy.

The production to complete his photographs are very complex and often requires Tesar a few weeks just for one single image. Every motive exists in an edition of 8 copies, but each is a unique piece.
Tesars photographic work and his technique is entirely in the tradition of Czech „staged photography" (Saudek, Macku, Dritikol).
